I have wondered this for well over a year since I first learned that these were tactics/behaviors of a cat that may be trying to kill a person. I never lived with a cat prior to 18 months ago and so far I have survived but this may be more due to the ineptitude of our cat rather than any special survival skills I may have. Here is a quiz that goes along with the information below in case you would like to determine the intentions of your feline friends!

Islands
I had a brief thought today, I know what you are thinking...did it hurt? It didn't hurt but it was a thought none the less. I thought about islands I have been to. There are actually only a few of them.
Nassau in the Bahamas on the island of New Providence. (No picture, sorry)
The largest is Australia, but I have also been to Tasmania in Australia, so two down under. (Hobart, Tasmania)
Some others are Zanzibar, in the Indian Ocean. (spice plantation on Zanzibar) San Juan Island in Washington State. (Friday Harbor)Puerto Rico, in the Caribbean (southwest tip of island, in picture)The isle of Great Britain as well as the smaller Inner Hebride of the Isle of Skye. (Isle of Skye)Nassau in the Bahamas on the island of New Providence. (No picture, sorry)
Robben Island in South Africa. (Cape Town from Robben Island)
See, I told you it wasn't very many! Feel free to remind me of others if you know places I have been that I am forgetting!Thursday, May 20, 2010
Looney Tunes
Today I read part of an article in the New York Times about the Looney Tunes returning. The author Brooks Barnes begins with this - "Ask a first grader to identify Bugs Bunny and the response more likely than not will be a blank stare. Dora, sure. Mickey, alive and kicking. But Porky who?"
This seems strange to me as I wear Looney Tunes ties to work fairly often so I wouldn't even think that this would be missing completely from the popular culture of kids these days. Apparently they are coming back to Cartoon Network and live on the same street as neighbors. I read a different article today as well about this. That article had too much information in it but it was still informative and some great old video of the characters.
Apparently they were never intended to be together in cartoons rather than only 2-3 characters in a given cartoon because it would be too complicated. Also they said Tiny Tunes were written to be at the same school rather than the original characters who weren't written to be together at all. Honestly, I won't watch the new Looney Tunes on Cartoon Network but I am more intrigued knowing more about the original cartoons. It also makes me wonder about other cartoons like the Hanna-Barbera ones or even the Disney Afternoon ones like Rescue Rangers, Duck Tales and others...

Weird and Ugly Buildings
OK, I just posted a few pictures of distinctive buildings on a whim on Monday but today I came across, by accident a list of the "World's Strangest Buildings" and I also found a slideshow of the "World's Ugliest Buildings." Here I will share a few of the most interesting but I recommend exploring these two lists, they aren't too long so they don't take much to see all of the "speshal" buildings!
Below are the Longaberger Headquarters, Christopher Columbus Lighthouse and the EMP.
Here is the link to the Ugliest Buildings slideshow.

Ngorongoro
Hello, today I am posting with pictures and brief information about the Ngorongoro Crater in Tanzania. I have started a third blog called Enviro-Sustain and I added a picture to the heading of that blog that I took in the Ngorongoro Crater in 2007. That same picture is here below as well. The crater is the unflooded cladera that was formed after a volcanic eruption 2-3 million years ago. The picture below is looking down into the crater from the rim. It is so large that it is difficult to tell that it is an enclosed crater. I have seen estimates that range between 25000 and 30000 large mammals that reside within the crater. This includes all of the African Big Five, of which I saw four (not Leopard) while in the crater including a pride of lions who laid down in the shade of our Land Cruiser essentially keeping us from going anywhere for quite some time. Here is a link to the best picture to see the entire crater.

May the Fourth Be With You!
OK, so apparently today is Star Wars Day. I was unaware of this but I have been enlightened by a morning radio DJ. In honor of this day (and the clever play on words, that is today) I am posting with a video I found.
I also found out that you can put your face (and those of your friends) in a JibJab Star Wars piece here: http://starwars.jibjab.com/
It seems pretty fun for a day that was previously just May the fourth (no play on words)!
